The game

A Beber, published on the stores as DrinksApp, is a party game for groups. Add your friends, pick one of ten games and play together on one phone, with no player limit and rules you can learn in seconds.

It started as a small project in 2019 and has been live and growing ever since. I'm its sole developer and co-owner, so everything in it is mine: the game design, every line of code, the backend, the monetization and every release on Google Play and the App Store.

What I built

Ten games on one framework

  • Every game mode shares one base for players, instructions and scoring, so a new mode is mostly new content.
  • Question decks come from localized string tables in six languages, with swipe cards, roulettes, timers and scoreboards built on top.

Startup, sign-in and offline

  • A staged startup: connection check, Google Play Games or Game Center sign-in, PlayFab login, player data and subscription status, shown as one loading bar.
  • Clear offline handling, so players see what's wrong instead of a frozen screen.

Monetization that can't be faked

  • Subscriptions and in-app purchases with Unity IAP, validated through PlayFab for both Google Play and the App Store, plus purchase restore and support for players with older premium access.
  • A free-access flow with a timed free session tracked on the server, which players can extend by rating the app, following on Instagram or watching a rewarded ad through LevelPlay.

Live content and data

  • Remote content through Addressables, so new questions and dares go live without a new build.
  • Firebase analytics across the free-access and ad flow, and App Tracking Transparency on iOS.
